LA's gay beach since the 1940s, between the Pride-painted towers 17 and 18.
Ginger Rogers Beach is the gay section of Will Rogers State Beach: the sand north of the Annenberg Community Beach House, informally between lifeguard towers 17 and 18, where Entrada Drive meets Pacific Coast Highway. Gay men have gathered here since the 1940s, and the nickname is a nod to the actress. In June 2023 Los Angeles County painted both towers in Progress Pride colors to mark the spot. Will Rogers is a county-run beach with more than three miles of frontage, lifeguards during daylight hours, restrooms, showers, volleyball courts, picnic tables and bike-path access. It is textile — no clothing-optional area. Lot 1 at 14800 PCH (dawn to dusk) is the southernmost lot and the nearest to the towers; Lot 3 at 15800 PCH is open 6 am to 10 pm, and Lot 5 was closed as of October 2026 for wildfire-recovery work. Metro bus 534 runs along PCH. Late spring through early fall is the season; it is quieter than Santa Monica or Malibu but fills on summer weekends.
