San Antonio, Texas
Longtime gay gift and apparel shop on the Main Avenue strip.
ZEBRAZ is a long-running gay gift, apparel, and novelty shop on North Main Avenue, right on San Antonio's nightlife strip. Founded in 1995 by Glenn Chase, it started as a mail-order catalog operation — it absorbed the pioneering Shocking Gray catalog that same year — before settling into the storefront that's anchored this stretch of North Main for roughly three decades. Stock runs from Pride apparel and accessories to books, novelties, gifts, and adult items. It self-bills as the world's largest gay and lesbian department store, which is more slogan than measurement, but the longevity is real: few gay retailers anywhere have stayed open this long under the same founder. Its strip location makes it an easy stop before or between the bars, and the range means you can walk out with anything from a greeting card to a gag gift to a piece of San Antonio queer-retail history.
