The Blue Whale in the Pines hosts occasional drag brunches and special performances alongside its famous daily Tea Dance.

The Invasion of the Pines — July 4, 2026

The island's biggest drag event and one of the most unique LGBTQ+ celebrations anywhere. Hundreds of drag queens and friends gather in Cherry Grove, then board water taxis for a spectacular flotilla to "invade" the Pines harbor. The tradition dates to the 1970s and draws thousands of spectators over the July 4th weekend.

The annual Miss Fire Island drag pageant is a beloved mid-summer tradition in Cherry Grove, crowning a new queen each year in a campy, theatrical competition at the Arts Project of Cherry Grove.
