Part of the Gay Fire Island Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Fire Island, New York
Cherry Grove's nonprofit community theater and arts organization.
The Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) is America's oldest LGBTQ+ community arts organization, founded in 1948 with the "Cherry Grove Follies" and running ever since. It produces theater, drag, cabaret, and community events out of the Cherry Grove Community House & Theatre, the gambrel-roofed building (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) that the project helped build in its earliest seasons. Programming runs through the summer, from staged plays and musical revues to variety and drag nights, often pairing island performers with visiting talent. It's the cultural backbone of the Grove: less a nightlife stop than the institution that has defined Cherry Grove's identity as a queer artists' colony for more than 75 years.
