What is the Gay Neighborhood in Denver?

Denver's primary LGBTQ+ neighborhood is Capitol Hill, centered along East Colfax Avenue between the State Capitol and Franklin Street. In 2023 the area was informally designated the Lavender Hill Queer Cultural District — one of only a handful of recognized queer cultural districts in the country. The district spans Capitol Hill, North Cap Hill, City Park West, Cheesman Park, and parts of Five Points and Baker.

What to Find in Lavender Hill

The heart of the district runs along Colfax, where you can walk bar to bar without calling a rideshare. X BAR, Charlie's Denver, Buddies Denver, and Tight End Bar are all on or near Colfax. The Center on Colfax (GLBT Community Center of Colorado) at 1301 E Colfax Ave anchors the district with HIV testing, legal referrals, social groups, and youth programs. Cheesman Park, adjacent to Capitol Hill, has long been a gathering spot for the LGBTQ+ community.

Baker & Santa Fe Arts District

South of downtown, the Baker neighborhood and Santa Fe Arts District are building a second queer hub. Trade (475 Santa Fe Dr) is the area's anchor — a leather-leaning bar with themed events and a large patio. Li'l Devils Lounge (255 S Broadway) adds an intimate cocktail option with a firepit patio.

RiNo (River North)

While not a gay neighborhood per se, Tracks (3500 Walnut St) — Denver's biggest and longest-running LGBTQ+ nightclub — is located in the RiNo Art District.
