What is the Gay Neighborhood in Nashville?

Nashville's primary LGBTQ+ district is the Church Street corridor in downtown Nashville, running roughly between 8th Avenue and the Gulch. For decades, this stretch has been the heart of gay nightlife in Music City, with venues clustered within walking distance of each other.

Church Street

Church Street is home to Nashville's most established gay nightlife. Play Dance Bar is the city's largest gay dance club, known for high-energy nights and drag performances. Tribe is a longtime neighborhood bar with a spacious dance floor, happy hours, show tune nights, and Latin nights. Pecker's Bar and Grill rounds out the block with a laid-back sports bar atmosphere.

East Nashville

A few miles east across the Cumberland River, East Nashville has become a thriving second LGBTQ+ neighborhood. The Lipstick Lounge — a lesbian-owned bar on Woodland Street — is the anchor of the scene here, with karaoke, live music, drag shows, and a welcoming patio. Canvas relocated to East Nashville after 11 years on Church Street, bringing its popular cocktail bar and themed nights to the neighborhood.

Other Areas

Frankie J's in Germantown offers a queer neighborhood bar with Mexican comfort food and LGBTQIA songwriting nights. Trax Tea Room moved to the Wedgewood-Houston area with a larger space featuring pool, karaoke, and drag shows.
