Neighborhoods·Tampa Gay Guide

What is the Gay Neighborhood in Tampa?

Tampa's primary LGBTQ+ neighborhood is the GaYbor District, located inside historic Ybor City and centered along East 7th Avenue. The name blends "gay" and "Ybor," and the area has been organized since 2007 by the GaYbor District Coalition, a nonprofit representing the district's queer-owned and queer-friendly businesses. The City of Tampa formally recognized the "GaYBOR District in Historic Ybor City" by proclamation in 2011, and Ybor City itself is a National Historic Landmark District of cigar-factory architecture and red-brick streets.

What to Find in GaYbor

The district is genuinely walkable — the gay nightlife clusters on and around 7th Avenue, so you can bar-hop on foot. Anchors include Bradley's on 7th, a two-room neighborhood gay bar, and Disco Pony, a high-energy dance club. Nearby you'll find the leather-and-alternative MR D'z Men's Emporium and Ybor's long-running goth and industrial club The Castle, which has been embraced by the community since 1992.

Across the Bay: St. Petersburg

Tampa and St. Petersburg are sister cities in one Tampa Bay metro, about 25 minutes apart by car. St. Pete's Grand Central District along Central Avenue is the region's other major gayborhood, known for rainbow crosswalks and a year-round "casually queer" vibe — an easy and worthwhile day trip from Ybor.
