Are There Lesbian Bars and Safe Spaces in Milwaukee?

Milwaukee is one of the few cities in America that still has a dedicated lesbian bar, making it a standout destination for queer women.

Dedicated Lesbian Bar

  • Walker's Pint (818 S. 2nd St) — Milwaukee's oldest lesbian bar and the last remaining in Wisconsin, opened in 2001 by owner Bet-Z Boenning. One of roughly 24 lesbian bars left in the entire US. The motto is "Be nice or leave." Regular events include bingo, karaoke, dart leagues, drag shows, and DJs. Open Tuesday through Sunday.

Queer Women-Friendly Spaces

  • POP (124 W. National Ave) — Next-gen queer bar opened in 2023 with creative cocktails, THC-infused drinks, and an artistic, inclusive atmosphere. Open 365 days a year with a packed event calendar that frequently centers queer women and nonbinary community.
  • Fluid Milwaukee (819 S. 2nd St) — Right next door to Walker's Pint, Fluid draws a mixed LGBTQ+ crowd with a stylish cocktail lounge setting and backyard patio.

  • Lesbian Visibility Week (April 21-27 annually) — Community-organized celebrations around International Lesbian Visibility Day (April 26)
  • Black Pride MKE — Year-round events with inclusive programming for queer women of color
  • Milwaukee LGBT Community Center — Support groups and social programming for all identities
