Part of the Gay Milwaukee Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
A relaxed Walker's Point gay bar known for craft cocktails.
Fluid sits at 819 South 2nd Street in Walker's Point, on a corner with more queer history than any other address in Wisconsin — the building has housed eight different gay bars since December 1944. Owner Bill Wardlow opened the current incarnation in 1998, back when this stretch of Walker's Point was still mostly shuttered industrial blocks, and has run it as a progressive neighborhood bar that's open to everyone ever since. It's a straightforward local rather than a see-and-be-seen club: fair-priced drinks, a steady regular crowd, and a back patio with heaters and a fire pit that keeps it usable well past Milwaukee's short patio season. The bar leans into its own lineage, hosting community and history-minded events tied to Walker's Point's eight decades as the heart of the city's gay scene. It anchors the corridor alongside Walker's Pint a few doors down, making the two an easy one-two to start or settle into a night in the gayborhood.
