The 1884 Lounge is the small room inside the Minglewood Hall complex on Madison Avenue — roughly 400 capacity against the main hall’s 1,500 — programming local, regional and small touring acts on a show-by-show calendar. Its significance for LGBTQ+ Memphis is the Sapphic Memphis dance night, which is the closest thing the city has to a standing lesbian party. Memphis has no dedicated lesbian bar, and locals will tell you plainly that this is where that crowd goes instead. Nothing here runs weekly, so check the calendar before planning around it.
