Canvas opened on Madison Avenue in 2016 in a former antiques shop, pitched by founders Rob Coletta and Brandon Knight as an interactive arts lounge. In practice that means gallery wall space rotated among local artists who sell on a small consignment fee, live art made during weekend music sets, and karaoke three nights a week. It is a cheap night out — pizza slices run a few dollars, with a full bar and local taps. It is not a gay bar, but Midtown regulars describe it as one of the more alternative, LGBTQ+ friendly rooms on the strip.
