Gay bathhouse and sauna on Winnipeg's Main Street, operating since the early 1970s
A gay bathhouse on Main Street in Winnipeg's North End. A sauna has operated at this address since The Office Sauna opened here in the early 1970s — documented in the Manitoba Gay/Lesbian Archive — making it one of the longest-running gay bathhouses in the country; it was relaunched as Adonis around 2000, with more than 50 years of continuous operation on the same block. The single-level, wheelchair-accessible layout includes a hot tub, steam room, dry sauna, private rooms, glory booths, and a video lounge, with safer-sex supplies kept stocked throughout. Weekly theme nights and trial-hour promotions keep a core of regulars coming back, and the crowd tends to run older in the afternoons and younger late on weekend nights. It's a no-frills, long-tenured neighborhood institution rather than a glossy big-city complex — which is much of its appeal for the men who've kept it going for half a century.
