Part of the Gay Montreal Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Montreal, Québec
North American bathhouse since 1914 with original stone steam rooms and a rooftop terrace.
One of the oldest bathhouses in North America, founded in 1914 as a Russian-Turkish public bath and men-only since 1994. The building in Plateau-Mont-Royal — not in the Gay Village — still has its original natural stone steam rooms and a 1940s dry-sauna heater, giving the interior a genuine time-capsule feel that no renovation could replicate. Facilities include a whirlpool, dark room, video room, and two outdoor terraces (one rooftop with nude sunbathing and Montreal skyline views). On-site massage therapists offer 30-minute sessions. The crowd is relaxed and community-oriented — bears, admirers, and men 40+ — with a vibe closer to a neighborhood institution than a high-energy Village sauna.
