Calgary's only 24-hour gay bathhouse underground on 17 Ave SW
Goliath's is Calgary's only gay bathhouse, open around the clock in a subterranean space off 17th Avenue SW. The entrance is tucked behind Model Milk, down the stairs under the old Texas Lounge sign. Inside are a steam room, dry sauna, hot tub, lockers, adult video rooms, and both single and double private rooms. It has been part of the city's queer landscape for decades, running on the steady 24/7 rhythm that makes a bathhouse as much a late-night refuge as a destination. Goliath's also holds a heavy place in Calgary's gay history. On December 12, 2002, police raided it after an eight-month undercover operation and charged 18 men under Canada's bawdy-house laws, a flashpoint that galvanized local LGBTQ+ organizing for years afterward. Two decades on, the Calgary Police Service publicly acknowledged the harm and offered to expunge the records of those caught up in it, a rare formal reckoning with that kind of raid. Knowing that history is part of understanding the room you're walking into.
