Part of the Gay Birmingham Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Birmingham, Alabama
Birmingham's flagship gay bar and dance club in the Lakeview District
Birmingham's flagship gay bar and dance club, anchoring the Lakeview District on Southside out of an 8,000-square-foot space with three bars, a large showroom and dance floor, and an outdoor patio. Al Pilkington opened it in 2011 in the former Joe's on Seventh space, and it's been the center of the city's queer nightlife ever since; general manager Mark Cummings later took over ownership. The house drag troupe, the #DREAMCAST, performs regularly and was featured in the 2023 documentary Queens of Birmingham, with guest bookings pulling from Drag Race alumni and national pageant titleholders. Thursday and Sunday karaoke and Sunday Funday round out a week that swings from show nights to a packed weekend dance floor. If you've got one night in Birmingham, this is the room to find the scene: big enough to host the whole city's queer crowd under one roof, and the default starting point whether you're local or passing through.
