Birmingham, Alabama
Big Five Points South gay bar with drag, dancing and a kitchen
Icon Birmingham is a gay bar in the Pickwick Place retail center in Five Points South, opened in May 2026 by Kyle Richardson, who has run the original Icon in Tuscaloosa for about 16 years. The 7,400-square-foot space is nearly four times the size of the Tuscaloosa bar, with a stage, a dance floor and a kitchen serving pizza, wings and bar food. Richardson opened it after the closures of Our Place and The Quest Club left what he called "a big void in Birmingham's gay community." The format follows the Tuscaloosa original: drag shows and drag brunches, themed dance nights and collaborations with local LGBTQ+ groups.
