New York City, New York
Hell's Kitchen queer bar with retro decor, cocktails, and skee-ball.
Atlas Social Club is a retro, sports-themed gay bar on 9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen, from the team behind the Manhattan nightspots Bedlam and Splash. The look leans vintage-athletic — boxing posters and old muscle magazines on the walls, classic sports films on the monitors — with a bar up front and a small dance floor and disco ball in back. The soundtrack runs to oldies, disco, and classic-rock hits rather than current club fare, and the crowd skews easygoing and chatty; skee-ball and two-for-one happy-hour drinks set the tone. It's one of the anchors of the 9th Avenue gay strip and a good early-evening starting point before the night gets louder elsewhere — playful and unpretentious rather than a see-and-be-seen scene.
