New York City, New York
Worker-owned coffee and cocktail co-op for gay gals in Bushwick
Boyfriend is a worker-owned coffee shop and cocktail bar on Myrtle Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and its own tagline sums it up: a "coffee & cocktail cooperative for gay gals & their pals." Hell Gate called it New York City's first cooperatively owned lesbian coffee and cocktail bar when it opened in March 2025, run by its worker-owners. By day it's a café; at night the bar takes over with cocktails. The events lean toward community, from workshops to drag and burlesque variety shows. It opens early and stays open late, so it works as well for a morning coffee as for a last drink.
