Part of the Gay Los Angeles Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Los Angeles, California
WeHo gay adult shop with toys, books, jocks, and an art gallery.
Circus of Books West sits at 8861 Santa Monica Blvd in WeHo's Rainbow District — a recent second store carrying the Circus of Books name, the brand made famous by the original shop a few miles east at 8230 Santa Monica. That original, run for decades by Karen and Barry Mason, was the subject of the 2020 Netflix documentary made by their daughter Rachel; the brand later passed to new ownership under Channel 1 Releasing. This West location opened in the early 2020s in the space that previously held a ChiChi LaRue's adult store. Inside it's a full adult shop: toys, lubricants, magazines, DVDs, plus cards, coffee-table books, and tees. The Gallery @ Circus rotates work by local LGBTQ+ artists, giving it a foot in the neighborhood's creative life as much as its adult trade. It keeps notably late hours for a shop, latest on weekends — useful to know if you're browsing after the bars let out.
