Part of the Gay Amsterdam Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Amsterdam, Netherlands
Footwear-only naked gay bar on the Amstel, open since December 2023.
Free Willie is Amsterdam's only naked bar aimed at queer men, opened in December 2023 by the team behind fetish club Church and the Nieuwezijds sauna. The dress code is footwear and accessories only, with underwear permitted, and despite that premise the room plays social rather than sexual: a canalside house on the Amstel with a pool table, a proper bar, and conversation, closer to a brown café with a strict door than to a sex club. The address has held gay venues since 1976, when a small disco called the Amstel Taveerne Club first opened here. The weekend carries the programming, with FleshDance, a naked dance party, on Saturdays, Willie Wankers on Fridays, and themed evenings on Sundays. The crowd is mostly cis and trans gay and queer men, with trans women and non-binary people part of the mix. For a traveler it's a lower-pressure way to try Amsterdam's naked-bar scene without committing to a full fetish club: start here, then walk to the Rembrandtplein and Amstel cluster a few minutes away.

Provincetown is famous for its nightlife, but the daytime is half the magic — gay beaches, whale watching, the Pilgrim Monument, dune tours and a historic art colony. Here's the complete guide to what to do in P-town beyond the bars.

Cherry Grove is where gay America summered before there was a word for it. Here's the complete guide to Fire Island's original queer hamlet — its history, its drag-soaked nightlife, where to stay and eat, the beach, and how it differs from the Pines next door.
