Part of the Gay Minneapolis Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Downtown Minneapolis's multi-bar gay complex with drag and dancing.
Gay 90's is one of the largest LGBTQ+ entertainment complexes in the Upper Midwest — six distinct bars and three dance floors filling a multi-floor building that takes up most of a city block on Hennepin Avenue downtown. It has operated as a gay bar since 1975 and is, for a lot of Minnesotans, the first name that comes to mind when someone says "gay bar." Upstairs, the La Femme Lounge runs drag performances Wednesday through Sunday while the Retro Room plays pop to a packed floor; the downstairs bars keep a slower pace for conversation, and there's a male revue in the mix too. It's the default big-night-out anchor of downtown — sprawling enough that you can bounce between a drag show, a dance floor, and a quiet drink without leaving the building, with weekend hours running to 3 AM.
