Toronto, Ontario
Village pub with dog-friendly patio and 60+ craft beers since 2000
Hair of the Dog has held down its corner of Church Street in Toronto's Church-Wellesley Village since 2000. Two floors of dining, an indoor fireplace, and a dog-friendly patio that NOW Magazine readers have voted best in the city. The menu covers elevated pub fare — burgers, fish and chips, wings, and weekend brunch — alongside Belgian ale Delirium Tremens on tap and a rotating craft beer lineup with over 60 varieties. The crowd is mostly gay men and friends, reflecting the Village around it, but the pace is relaxed pub, not nightclub. Trivia nights, live music, and seasonal events keep regulars cycling through. The building at 425 Church has its own history — originally the LeBaron Steakhouse, opened in 1954 and designed by Jouke Van Sloten, who returned at about 80 years old to update his own work for the pub's 2000 opening.
