Part of the Gay Dallas Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Dallas, Texas
Longtime Oak Lawn bear and dive bar with pool and patios.
Hidden Door has poured drinks on Bowser Avenue since 1979, when Jim Roberts bought what was then a straight airline-crew bar near Love Field and turned it into a gay bar. It's a dive and bear bar at heart, with three separate bar areas, pool tables, and misted outdoor pavilions, and it ranks among the longest-running gay bars in Dallas. The crowd skews masculine and unpretentious: leather guys, bears, and after-work regulars who know the bartenders by name. It's cash-only, the drinks are strong and cheap, and the busiest day of the year is the Sunday of Texas Bear Round Up. One thing that sets it apart from the Cedar Springs strip a few minutes away is where the money goes: net profits fund the Anthony Bobrow Trust, which has channeled close to $2 million to Dallas LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS causes over the years.
