New York City, New York
Queer-affirming Bushwick nightclub and performance venue since 2007.
Multi-room performance venue and nightclub near the Jefferson St. L stop in Bushwick, founded in 2007 by Kae Burke and Anya Sapozhnikova. The current space opened in 2015 after two previous locations — including one destroyed by a kitchen fire. DJ dance nights run Thursday through Sunday; theatrical shows Thursday through Saturday, with the recurring "Dirty Circus" variety show (aerial, drag, burlesque) anchoring weekends. House of Yes is queer-affirming rather than exclusively queer, with a "Safer Spaces" policy enforced by trained staff called Consenticorns. Themed costume parties, vogue balls, and Pride editions of signature shows draw a mixed crowd that skews creative and sex-positive. Time Out named it the #2 thing to do in the world in 2018.
