Austin, Texas
Lesbian-founded coffeehouse with breakfast-to-dinner menu on 2nd Street
Jo's Downtown sits in Austin's 2nd Street District — the most food-forward of the three Jo's locations, with a full breakfast-through-dinner menu that includes one of Austin's better burgers alongside espresso drinks and La Colombe-roasted coffee. A walk-up window hands out dog biscuits, and the apple-green-and-ruby-red exterior is hard to miss. Jo's was founded in 1999 by Liz Lambert — an openly lesbian hotelier who helped transform South Congress — and her brother Lou, naming it after their mother. The Downtown location hosts Drag Brunch & Bubbles on the second Sunday of each month, with drag performer Lawrie Bird. Two-hour free parking validation in the AMLI garage on weekdays.
