Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam's iconic queer bar with drag shows and trans-community focus
Lellebel is a drag and trans bar that has been open since November 1997, and it has stayed trans and queer owned and run ever since — current owner Tori took over in 2020. It sits on Utrechtsestraat just off Rembrandtplein, a small pub-style room where the stage is never far from the crowd. The calendar leans on live performance rather than DJs: drag shows, stand-up comedy, open-mic nights and the occasional live band, with Sunday karaoke the long-standing fixture. The music skews more toward rock and indie than pop-disco, and the mood is closer to a neighborhood living room than a nightclub. It's a genuine safe space first and a night out second, with trans patrons, queer locals and allies all mixing in. It's worth the short walk off the Rembrandtplein strip for a warmer, more grounded scene than the bigger bars nearby.
