Central Ave museum that curated Memphis Proud.
The former Pink Palace Museum, now MoSH, anchors the Central Avenue museum corridor. Its place in LGBTQ+ Memphis comes from Memphis Proud: The Resilience of a Southern LGBTQ+ Community, the first major exhibit to document the city’s LGBTQ+ history. Built from local artefacts, photographs and oral histories, it traced affirming faith congregations, community centers, and the bars, bookstores and house parties where people actually gathered, alongside the AIDS crisis, Pride parades and drag. That exhibit has since closed, so check what is currently on view before planning a visit around it.
