Pekers is a no-frills gay dive bar in an Oak Lawn Avenue strip mall, the kind of unpretentious neighborhood room built around long daily happy hours and a loyal base of regulars. It's a Dallas Tavern Guild member, so it stays tied into the wider Oak Lawn bar community. Its calling card is 'Totally Twisted Karaoke' on Friday and Saturday nights, which the Dallas Morning News has voted the best karaoke in DFW several years running. Midweek there are recurring specials like Whiskey Wednesdays. If the Cedar Springs strip a few blocks over feels too polished or too packed, Pekers is the low-key alternative: cheap, friendly, and short on attitude.
