Part of the Gay Providence Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Providence, Rhode Island
Providence's leather and bears bar on Snow Street since 1992.
The Providence Eagle traces back to 1992 as the local link in the international Eagle chain of leather-and-Levi's bars, and these days it runs out of 124 Snow Street, the downtown space that previously housed The Dark Lady. The crowd runs to leather and bears, mostly gay and bi men in their thirties and up, but the door is open to anyone comfortable in a dim, no-frills room built for regulars rather than spectacle. Inside there's a dance floor, a raised area with a pool table, and the low-lit, unfussy character the Eagle name carries everywhere it exists. It opens earlier than most of the city's bars, which makes it a natural first stop, and themed nights and leather events rotate through the calendar year-round. On Providence's compact downtown strip of gay bars, the Eagle is the one for the leather crowd: start your night here before the dance floors across the way pick up.
