Part of the Gay Providence Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Providence, Rhode Island
Snug mixed-crowd bar on Snow Street, the low-key half of the Fruit Loop.
Alley Cat is a snug gay bar at 17 Snow Street, tucked into Providence's downtown Fruit Loop and billed as the "little sister" to the Dark Lady right next door. Where the bars around it lean toward dance floors and drag stages, Alley Cat runs quieter and more conversational: dark-wood interiors, a mixed-orientations crowd, and an upstairs room where you can actually hear the person across the table. The calendar still has its nights, weekly drag shows, trivia, and karaoke, but the appeal is the contrast. It's a low-key local hang for when the high-energy rooms next door get to be too much, pulling a crowd that skews across ages and orientations. On a Fruit Loop night it's the easy companion stop, two doors from the louder end of the strip.
