Part of the Gay Minneapolis Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Loring Park's LGBTQ+ shop for swimwear, underwear, and gifts since 1996.
Rainbow Road has been Minneapolis's gay retail mainstay since 1996, when Jim Connelly opened it at a time the nearest comparable shop was in Chicago. Set in Loring Park, it carries what it bills as the Midwest's largest selection of swimwear and underwear, alongside LGBTQ+ gifts, books, jocks, funky tops, and adult toys — and the original owners still work the floor, fitting included. A quarter-century in, it reads less like a store than a neighborhood landmark, doubling as a low-key gathering space with wine-and-cheese and fashion nights. It pulls shoppers from across the Upper Midwest and into southern Canada, especially around Pride, and works as a sober, daytime way to connect with the community for anyone who'd rather skip the bar scene.
