Part of the Gay Puerto Vallarta Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco
Gay-owned Scandinavian bistro at Olas Altas and Pulpito since 2009
The Swedes is a gay-owned Scandinavian bar and bistro at the corner of Olas Altas and Pulpito in Puerto Vallarta's Zona Romantica, one block from Los Muertos Beach. Founded in 2009 by Swedish expat Morgan Granander and now under owner Christopher Maluck (since 2022), the restaurant was nominated for Best Gay Owned Restaurant at its 15-year anniversary. The kitchen skips Mexican flavors entirely — gravlax, lobster bisque, Norwegian salmon over risotto, gorgonzola beef filet pasta, and surf and turf with loaded baked potato. Two floors with terraces overlooking Olas Altas. The bar opens at 4 PM daily with specialty cocktails, and Pink Night every Wednesday brings 40-peso Cosmopolitans from 4 PM to 1 AM. The kitchen runs 6 to 11 PM. During Pride, The Swedes hosts the Pulpito Drag Derby with proceeds going to the Amapas Neighborhood Association.
