Montreal, Québec
Gay Village bistro bar and patio with 25+ years on Sainte-Catherine.
Le Saloon has been a fixture of Montreal's Gay Village for more than 25 years, which in a neighborhood that turns over fast makes it something close to an institution. The bistro-bar on Sainte-Catherine Est runs a North American comfort menu of tartares, burgers, poutine, and house-made pizzas, alongside a long cocktail and wine list, and it's been under owner Philip Demers for most of its run. For its 25th anniversary the interior was fully reworked by the design firm Blazys Gérard. It reads relaxed rather than high-energy, a place to settle in for dinner and drinks across a whole evening rather than a club. In summer the patio spills onto the pedestrian-only stretch of Sainte-Catherine, one of the better people-watching perches in the Village, and a private mezzanine handles groups and events.
