Part of the Gay Minneapolis Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Downtown Minneapolis gay bar with male dancers and drag on Hennepin.
The Brass Rail Lounge has held its corner at 422 Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis since 1934, and today it's one of the Midwest's longest-running gay bars. It's a no-frills dive with a stage, and the programming does the talking: a weekly run of drag shows, male dancers Wednesday through Sunday, and trans and nonbinary social mixers. This isn't a polished cocktail lounge or a mega-club — it's an accessible, come-as-you-are anchor of Hennepin Avenue's historic gay strip, the same blocks where the Gay 90's, the 19 Bar, and Sutton Place once pulled the city's LGBTQ+ life toward Loring Park. Best for an unfussy night close to the action, with the drag calendar as the main draw.
