Part of the Gay Washington D.C. Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Washington D.C., Washington D.C.
A multi-level Dupont Circle video bar with a working fireplace.
The Fireplace is one of Washington D.C.'s longest-running gay bars, located in Dupont Circle at the corner of 22nd and P Street NW. Operating since 1989, it is the last remaining venue in a section of West Dupont once dense with queer nightlife. The ground floor functions as a low-key video bar featuring a working fireplace, while the upstairs area offers a small dance floor and DJ sets. Now under the ownership of Mark Bertini and Daniel Simmons as of 2024, the bar maintains its reputation as a no-frills neighborhood dive for a multigenerational crowd.
