The Mega-Plex is a 24/7 gay bathhouse on Allens Ave, the kind of around-the-clock men's space that has grown rare across New England, which is part of why it draws from well beyond Providence. Inside are more than 500 lockers, 75 private cabins (some with their own showers), a dry sauna and a group steam room, a maze, communal showers, and a TV lounge, with free parking on-site. The crowd skews toward bears and older regulars, and Saturday is the busiest night. Memberships range from a single visit to six- and twelve-month plans. AIDS Program Rhode Island (APRI) holds free walk-in HIV, hepatitis C, and syphilis testing on the premises, which makes the building a genuine fixture of the local scene rather than just a place to pass through.
