Part of the Gay Los Angeles Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Los Angeles, California
DTLA Latinx gay dive with nightly drag and cumbia on the jukebox.
A longtime gay bar in downtown LA, The New Jalisco Bar has been a home base for the city's Latinx LGBTQ+ community since the early 1990s. Owned by Rosa Maria Garcia since 2005, the cash-only dive on Main Street runs nightly drag shows in Spanish and English, with cumbia, reggaeton, and norteñas on the jukebox between sets. No cover, cheap Tecates, and a crowd that skews working-class Latino and unapologetically jotería — the polar opposite of polished WeHo nightlife. A commissioned mural titled "Nostra Fiesta" marks the entrance, and Monday nights draw regulars for Main St. Mondays, a weekly drag showcase. The bar earned a place in USC's One Archives exhibition alongside historic venues like The Black Cat.
