Every March, a stretch of sand at 10th Street on South Beach turns into one of the most famous dance floors in gay America. Winter Party Festival returns to Miami Beach March 5–8, 2027 (dates per the festival's ticketing partners — confirm at winterparty.com as the official calendar firms up), bringing its signature ocean-side Beach Party, a week of satellite events across South Beach, and a purpose most circuit weekends can't claim: every ticket funds the National LGBTQ Task Force's work.

Here's the full guide — what the week looks like, the history behind it, and how to do South Beach right while you're down.

The quick facts

  • When: March 5–8, 2027 (expected — the festival typically announces its final calendar and lineup in the fall)
  • Where: South Beach, Miami Beach — the signature Beach Party on the sand at 10th Street
  • Who it benefits: the National LGBTQ Task Force; since 2005 the festival and its gala have reinvested more than $4 million into 100+ South Florida community organizations
  • How big: 10,000+ attendees from around the world
  • Tickets: festival passes and single-event tickets through the festival's official channels

Pro Tip

Winter Party pass tiers sell in waves and the Beach Party is the one everybody buys — if you know you're going, grab passes when they open in the fall and book a South Beach hotel the same day. Early March is peak season on the beach.

A party with a purpose: the Winter Party story

Winter Party started in 1994 as a single beach dance on South Beach and grew into a week-long festival — one of the longest-running LGBTQ+ events in Florida. What sets it apart is the money: the festival is produced for the National LGBTQ Task Force, the country's oldest national LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, and its proceeds do real work. Since 2005, Winter Party and the Task Force Gala have put over $4 million back into more than 100 community organizations across South Florida, on top of funding the Task Force's national advocacy.

That gives the week a different feel than a pure commercial circuit stop. The crowd is still 10,000 strong and the DJs are still world-class — but the whole thing is, at its core, the Task Force's biggest party-shaped fundraiser.

What the week looks like

The festival's final 2027 lineup hadn't been announced as of this guide's update, but the format is well-established. The most recent edition ran six days across South Beach with a roster that shows the shape of the week:

  • The Beach Party — the signature event, on the sand at 10th Street Beach: elevated staging, international DJs, and the Atlantic Ocean as the backdrop. If you attend one thing, it's this. In recent years it anchors the Sunday of the festival.
  • The Pool Party — an afternoon session at a classic South Beach hotel pool (most recently the National Hotel's).
  • Royal Splash — the festival's poolside opener at The Palace, South Beach's famous drag landmark.
  • Night events and afterhours — big-room circuit nights and a Red Eye afterhours carry the week past sunrise, with a Finale to close.

Check winterparty.com for the confirmed 2027 schedule; we'll update this guide and add each party as the lineup posts.

Pro Tip

The Beach Party ends around sunset, and the post-beach migration to Twist and the Palace strip is a tradition of its own. Pace yourself — the marquee night events start late, and Miami afterhours mean exactly what they say.

South Beach nightlife between the parties

Winter Party doesn't happen in a vacuum — it happens two blocks from one of America's most storied gay strips. Between official events:

  • Twist — the seven-bar labyrinth on Washington Avenue, a South Beach institution for three decades. No cover, open every night, and the default landing spot all festival week.
  • The Palace — the Ocean Drive drag landmark where brunch queens perform on the sidewalk. Festival adjacency: it hosts the Royal Splash opener.
  • Bar Gaythering — the laid-back Lincoln Lane hangout inside Hôtel Gaythering; happy-hour energy, locals' crowd, and a sauna on site.
  • CLUBBOI and Azucar — worth the ride off the beach: North Miami's Black queer club mainstay and Little Havana's Latin gay institution, respectively, if you want the Miami beyond the sand.

Where to stay for Winter Party

The strategy is simple: stay on South Beach, as close to the 10th Street/Ocean Drive core as your budget allows — the Beach Party, the strip, and most satellite venues sit within a 15-minute walk of each other.

  • Beacon Hotel — directly on Ocean Drive at 8th, about as close to the Beach Party sand as a bed gets.
  • Clevelander — the adults-only Ocean Drive party hotel at 10th; you will hear the festival from the pool deck, which is either a feature or a warning.
  • Hôtel Gaythering — Miami Beach's gay hotel, up on Lincoln Lane with its own bar and sauna; adults-only, and the week's unofficial living room.
  • Dream South Beach / Moxy / Kimpton Palomar / citizenM — the reliable modern tier, all walkable to everything.

How Winter Party fits Miami's party calendar

Miami runs on marquee weekends, and knowing the calendar helps you pick your trip — or stack them:

  • Winter Party (early March) — the Task Force's beach-anchored festival, the subject of this guide. The most "classic South Beach" of the three.
  • Sizzle Miami (Memorial Day weekend) — the biggest Black gay pride weekend in the country, with pool parties and club takeovers across the city.
  • Urge Miami (Thanksgiving week) — the late-fall circuit weekend that closes the year.

And in 2027 there's a genuine collision worth knowing about: Atlantis's Epic Allure Caribbean cruise — billed as the world's largest gay cruise — sails out of Miami March 7–14, 2027, overlapping Winter Party weekend. South Beach will be very gay that week even by South Beach standards; hotels will feel it. Book accordingly, or do both — the full cruise calendar is here.

First circuit weekend? A few honest notes

  • You don't need the full pass to have a full weekend. The Beach Party plus one night event is a complete first Winter Party; the strip fills the gaps for free.
  • Hydrate like it's your job. You're dancing on sand in the sun for hours. Water between every drink is the actual pro move, and the beach setting makes skipping it genuinely risky.
  • Consent culture is the culture. Ask before touching, take a no gracefully, look out for the person next to you. The circuit at its best runs on exactly this.
  • Budget realistically. Between passes, a South Beach hotel in peak season, and Miami drink prices, this is not a cheap weekend — but the Beach Party is also the single best-value big event in the circuit world for what you get.
  • Sunday's sunset is the moment. Whatever else you skip, be on that sand when the sun drops behind the skyline and ten thousand people face the DJ. That's the photo, and the reason people come back for decades.

March on South Beach: what to expect

Early March is Miami Beach at its meteorological best — low 80s, low humidity by Miami standards, ocean warm enough to swim. It is also spring break season, which means two things: the rest of South Beach is crowded and loud beyond the festival itself, and Miami Beach has in recent years imposed extra rules during peak spring break weeks (things like earlier beach closures, parking restrictions, and heightened enforcement, varying year to year). None of it has stopped Winter Party — the festival's beach site is permitted and produced — but plan around a busy, heavily policed Ocean Drive, don't drive if you can avoid it, and treat the official festival venues as your reliable home base.

Getting there and getting around

  • Fly into MIA or FLL. Miami International is 20–30 minutes from South Beach; Fort Lauderdale is 45–60 minutes but often cheaper — and puts Wilton Manors on your way in.
  • Skip the rental car. South Beach parking is expensive and the festival footprint is walkable; rideshare covers everything else.
  • March is peak Miami. Low-80s days, ocean warm enough to swim, and every hotel priced accordingly. Book early, and confirm minimum-stay requirements — festival week often carries them.
