What is the Gay Neighborhood in Milwaukee?

Milwaukee's primary LGBTQ+ neighborhood is Walker's Point, centered along South 2nd Street between West National Avenue and West Greenfield Avenue on the city's near south side. The walkable stretch of gay bars and queer-owned businesses along S. 2nd Street is affectionately known as "the Fruit Loop."

What to Find in Walker's Point

Walker's Point is home to the densest concentration of LGBTQ+ nightlife in Wisconsin. Major venues include LaCage NiteClub (Milwaukee's legendary gay dance club, open since 1984), Walker's Pint (one of the last lesbian bars in the country), Fluid Milwaukee (a stylish cocktail lounge in the historic Friendly Bar building), and DIX Milwaukee (a high-energy dance club with DJs and drag shows).

In October 2025, rainbow crosswalks were installed at S. 2nd Street and W. National Avenue, designed by queer street artist Jeremy Novy and honoring Jim Dorn, founder of Milwaukee's first gay-couple-owned bar.

Beyond Walker's Point

The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center serves as a hub for community programming, support groups, and social events. Brady Street on the East Side also hosts Pride on Brady, a free annual street festival each June. While Walker's Point is the undisputed gayborhood, Milwaukee's queer community extends across the East Side, Third Ward, and Bay View neighborhoods.
