Berlin, Germany
Kreuzberg's queer cabaret and drag theater since 1988, home to Ades Zabel.
The BKA-Theater, short for Berliner Kabarett Anstalt, has been staging cabaret, comedy, and drag on Mehringdamm in Kreuzberg since 1988. Its programming leans queer, political, and unconventional: travesty shows, political satire, stand-up, concerts, improv, and the occasional musical, across more than 35 years on the same fifth-floor stage (with elevator access). The signature draw is Ades Zabel, who has performed here since the early 1990s alongside Bob Schneider and Biggy van Blond, his character Edith Schröder a long-running Berlin institution in her own right. The bill changes constantly, so it's worth checking what's on, but the house identity is consistent: smart, irreverent, queer-rooted live performance rather than a bar or club. Easy to reach off the U6/U7 at Mehringdamm.
