Blue Chairs Resort by the Sea sits on the south end of Playa Los Muertos — the stretch locals just call Blue Chairs Beach, the unofficially gay section of the sand — at the center of Puerto Vallarta's Zona Romántica. It's one of the first hotels in Mexico built specifically for gay travelers, open for more than 35 years, and the beach club out front, with chairs and palapas roped off on the sand, is still where a lot of the daytime scene gathers. The rooftop is the draw after dark. The Blue Sunset Rooftop Bar runs go-go dancers and regular drag shows under panoramic views of the bay, and it pulls outside visitors, not just hotel guests. The property is adults-only throughout, with a Cotton Candy Cocktail Lounge for a quieter drink. Worth knowing: you don't have to stay here to use the rooftop or join the beach-club crowd, which makes it an easy anchor for a day-into-night in the Romántica even if you're booked elsewhere.
