Vancouver, British Columbia
Vancouver's flagship gay nightclub in a heritage building since 1987
Vancouver's flagship gay nightclub, on the Davie Village strip. The heritage-designated building traces back to a 1911 dance-hall permit and has hosted everyone from Led Zeppelin and The Doors (in its 1960s Retinal Circus era) to Brooke Lynn Hytes and current Drag Race alumni. The Kerasiotis family took over the space in the early 1980s and relaunched it as the gay club Celebrities in 1987; a $1 million renovation in 2013 brought the sound and lighting up to club-standard, and the high-ceilinged dance floor packs in a crowd that spans college kids to regulars who've been coming for decades. Weekly programming rotates through nights like K-pop Thursdays, two distinct Fridays (a hip-hop and R&B night plus an EDM night), and Playhouse Saturdays with full production, alongside Tuesday parties and touring international DJs. The club also produces "Vancouver's Next Drag Superstar," an original drag competition series. It sits at the Davie and Burrard corner — the gateway to the Village and a Pride hub every August.
