Vancouver, British Columbia
Bear and leather community anchor of Davie Village since 2000
A Davie Village staple since December 2000, the PumpJack is Vancouver's anchor for the bear and leather communities — a loud, friendly room where caps, chaps, and harnesses are part of the furniture. A nine-month renovation in 2014 more than doubled its capacity, from about 107 seats to 244, adding a dance floor with its signature go-go cube and a small rear patio, so it works as both a neighborhood pub and a proper weekend night out. Despite the subcultural focus, it pulls a broad West End crowd for billiards and beers, and it's earned its place partly through giving back: the bar has raised well over $185,000 for local charities and HIV/AIDS organizations across its run. It's the go-to if bear and leather is your scene in Vancouver, and an easy, unpretentious hang even if it isn't.
