Vancouver's oldest gay bar in a heritage 1890s building since 1980
Numbers is Vancouver's oldest gay bar, operating on Davie Street since 1980 and, for years, the oldest continuously running gay-owned business in the West End. It sits in an 1890s heritage building — the entrance keeps its original turn-of-the-century stained glass, and the upstairs bar has restored old-growth fir floors and original wainscoting, so there's genuine history under the disco. Phil Moon, a Gay Hall of Fame inductee, ran it for four decades before the Clerides family took it over in 2020 to keep it going through the pandemic. The three levels each do their own thing: a main-floor dance floor, an upper level with karaoke and pool, and a small outdoor patio. Programming runs themed nights through the week and headlining drag on Friday and Saturday. It's not the flashiest room on Davie, but it's the one with the deepest roots — worth a stop for the building alone, and a solid weekend dance floor on top of it.
