Provincetown, Massachusetts
Dark basement bar beneath Local 186 — CHURCH Sundays and summer DJs
Grotta is the underground bar beneath Local 186 on Commercial Street — the name means "cave" in Italian, and the basement setting earns it. Small, dark, and intentionally tight, it runs on cocktails, cheap beer, and a rotating lineup of DJs and live entertainment. The flagship weekly event is CHURCH, a Sunday night dance party with DJ Rodd Hott that packs the room all summer long. Scream Along with Billy draws crowds on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Townie Tuesday Trivia with host Mona Mour rounds out the calendar. This is a locals-first bar that welcomes visitors who are down to squeeze in and go with it. The building at 186 Commercial has been a Provincetown institution since the 1800s, and the current owners — Gui Yingling and Eric Jansen — took over in 2012.
