Part of the Gay Austin Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Austin, Texas
Hippie Hollow is a Travis County park on Lake Travis and the best-known clothing-optional public park in Texas. It is not a sand beach — the shoreline is a series of rocky limestone ledges stepping down to the water, and the gay crowd has gathered on the stretches to the south for decades. The park is strictly adults only, 18 and over, with a per-person entry fee. Two things catch first-timers out. There is no sand and almost no shade, so the ledges get punishingly hot from late morning through mid-afternoon — go early or late. And lake levels swing considerably year to year, so in low-water summers the walk down to swimmable water is a good deal longer than it looks from the parking area.
