Part of the Gay Austin Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Austin, Texas
Austin's oldest gay bar, on Fourth Street since 1990.
Oilcan Harry's is Austin's oldest continuously operating gay bar, open since 1990 on Fourth Street in the Warehouse District, the city's de facto gayborhood since the mid-1970s. The dance floor is the heart of it, with DJs most nights, drag shows on Sundays, plus karaoke and bingo filling out the week. When you need air, the outdoor patio runs at a lower volume. It sits right next door to Rain on 4th, so a two-bar night barely requires walking. The crowd is mixed and the room gets going late; it's 18+ after 8 PM most nights. For a visitor trying to find the center of gay Austin, this block is it, and Oilcan's is the anchor.
