Austin, Texas
Downtown bear bar and grill with a stage and dance floor.
The Iron Bear is downtown Austin's bear bar, holding down the corner of West 6th Street, a short walk from the LGBTQ+ nightlife clustered on Fourth. It's the city's only LGBTQ+ bar and grill — a full kitchen running lunch and dinner up front, and a stage and dance floor that turn the room into a late-night club as the evening goes on. Founded by and for the bear community, it's stayed open to the whole spectrum across more than a decade in business. The crowd is easygoing and local-leaning, heavier on bears, cubs, and the men who love them, but there's no door attitude and no dress code to clear. Programming rotates through the week — karaoke, trivia, poker, and DJ nights — so there's usually a reason to be here on a weeknight, not just a weekend. For a traveler, it's the most reliable low-key landing spot downtown: close to the 6th Street action but a notch calmer and friendlier than the party bars around it.
