Honolulu, Hawaii
Gay bar at the Waikiki Grand Hotel since 1974, with Diamond Head views
Hula's Bar & Lei Stand has been a fixture of gay Waikiki since 1974, which makes it one of the longest-running LGBTQ+ bars in the islands. It sits on the second floor of the Waikiki Grand Hotel with open-air views of Diamond Head and the Pacific, a laid-back tiki bar by day that turns into a live-entertainment room after dark. The week runs on live music, video DJs spinning nightly on the dance floor, and a drag brunch on the first Sunday of the month, with tropical cocktails and casual bites alongside. The 21+ crowd is a steady mix of international visitors and Oahu locals, and the view alone earns the climb upstairs. For a lot of travelers it's the first and last stop of a Waikiki trip, the island's anchor gay bar, with five decades of history behind it.
