Bayside New American restaurant with the biggest wine list on Fire Island
Island Mermaid is a seasonal waterfront restaurant in Ocean Beach, Fire Island, with a large deck on Great South Bay. The menu is New American with a seafood focus — miso cod, pan-roasted sea scallops, tuna tartare, linguini with pistachio cream — and the venue claims the largest wine list on Fire Island. Owner Scott Hirsch has run the restaurant for years. Ocean Beach is Fire Island's largest community, more mixed-audience than the gay enclaves of Cherry Grove and The Pines further east. Island Mermaid hosts recurring drag and burlesque programming, including the annual Miss Isle of Fire pageant and Thursday-night Fire Island Follies variety shows through the summer.
